OK... what I mean is that I've scored a set of Kooka cranks for the single speed build project due for completion this Spring. The bike is not too far off from completion but it can currently be ridden without any more done to it. But, since I seem to always push to the next excess when it comes to my builds, I am doing it again here (and I have reached the edge of making it a little uncomfy for me as well). So here is a status report on the little guy.

As stated, I have acquired a set of Kooka cranks. They are the forged version of the cranks, not the billet ones with all the cool anodizing. But I scored these and they come with a matching blue powdercoat. Tough and it matches the theme of the bike. A bonus is that they are unused; though I was a little hesitant popping on the pedals and then locking it tight to the bottom bracket. Focusing on the crank area, I've picked up a 36T Blackspire Mono Veloce front chainring and mated it all together with a set of anodized blue SRP chainring bolts. Looks great. I did discover that the crank arms have a deeper fixing bolt cavity than newer cranks so when I began to bolt it all together with the newer bolts with the built in dust cap... the cap pops off. D'Oh. So I need to locate some dust covers to finish up the details.

Also, I have completed the front wheel and have it mounted onto the bike. I've recently ordered the White Industries ENO Eccentric rear hub. It will be laced up to another SID blue Velocity Aeroheat AT rim, same as the front. I may opt for a little stouter spokes, but we'll see. The current plan is 3X lacing on both sides with either DT Revolution (same as front) or DT Champion spokes.
As eluded to earlier, the cost of this project has already gotten out of hand. I won't mention the financial consequences of this one... but I know I could have left well enough alone several dollars ago and have a very ridable singlespeed. I do, on the other hand now have enough parts for a couple more bikes. I think the next build will be a cyclocross rig... If you don't already know, I sold my beloved Bontrager CX cyclocross frameset to try out the whole full-suspension scene. Mistake. But instead of regretting the decision, I will just make amends by making an even more killer machine... the question yet to be answered is, "Am I worthy?"
