The Salt & Pepper Dash or The Paper Plate Races

I have an idea. It started out as a fleeting thought, but who knows. Maybe it could be a fun little endevor. Maybe more rewarding than the American Diabetes Association rides the past couple of years.

I saw an old pic of paper plate number plates and thought, "that would be fun to have some crude races" simpler than the ones that happen every weekend. May be at the local trails. Maybe singlespeed only. Maybe only beginners. How about A and B races like cyclocross events? Just say go and the first peson out of the other end... bags the win! At this point, it starts to get complex. But I thought about it a little further. Paper number plates? Prizes? How does that work... 4 quarters and a paper plate entry fee? Scoring? Or not? 2 of the quarters for first, 1 for second and the other to help the site? Do I look into more of the KissCross approach and instead collect tags at the finish to get finish placement? I always appreciated knowing where I placed in every event I've participated. Does that make a paper plate number too hard to use? Is a laminated tag rubberbanded to the bike or pinned to the rider better? If there are no plates, what about the name? So came the name the Salt & Pepper Dash. What if there were more than one? We have more than one trail around here! What about land manager/owner consent? How in f'n 'ell do I deal with that? Liability waiver... ugh.

I'm torn. I'm confused. And I'm alone. So if anyone would like to hash this out a bit further... drop me a line.
