Well, here we go. My first 12 Hours of Pando is coming up and I'm pretty nervous over the whole ordeal. For one, I'm not much for endurance or even night riding. But here I am. The good part is that I got the support of a lot of people on this one.
First off, why so nervous? Sure there is always the first time nerves, but that's really not it. It has more to do with how I've felt over the past few weeks. Several weeks ago I felt awesome and was tearing up the trails. But now I feel drained. Ever since just before the trip up to Big-M, I've felt drained. Am I not eating right? Is the HEED I've been taking backfiring? Do I just suck? I know I've been cutting back a little bit and dropping a little weight. But my fat %age is dropping too. So why am I soooo pooped? Sure I do stuff around the house, but that has never drained me for rides. Or even running. That brings to mind my miserable run this past Saturday. I had to stop during mile 4 just because I was so drained. I can usually push through that and keep on keeping on... that's how I finally reached the 8.5 mile distance... push through the pain. I'll kick in just a little more food this week leading up to Pando and make sure I snarf down a lot of bananas... a lot of bananas (lessons learned a long time ago).
So I'll be riding on a 4-person team which should take a little of the endurance problems out. Plus it's a good icebreaker to the event. I'll be riding for the Dirt Dads... on the Dirt Dads 1 squad. The group also has Dirt Dads 2 as well as Rusty (the original Dirt Dad!) pulling a solo effort. Nine for the Dirt Dads... is that some sort of record?! Also present will be a contingency from Velo City Cycles, one of my fave shops. Ted looks to be amassing as many people as he can to attend the event. That alone should make hanging around in the pits a hoop-hollerin' good time.
Hmm... now to make a list of what to bring so I can feel good the whole time. Wish me luck!
