You know what they say, "Big Feet..."

I've worn size 9D shoes since high school.

A few years ago, I sold off my size 42 (European size 9) Sidi Dominators and upgraded to a 43. Same with the road shoes.

I started running a few years ago and picked up a size 9D Nike. Then to a size 9.5D New Balance.

Well, recently I expanded to rotating running shoes to prolong their life... like I do for my work shoes. But just for curiosity's sake, I decided to get my feet properly sized for a running shoe. Plus, just to see how close I was to the proper size...

I was at the local New Balance store and picked out a couple of replacement shoes and instead of stating my size and Al Bundy going and fetching the size, I had 'em size me up on the ol' foot scale.

He yelped out a 10EE. 8-/

My jaw dropped and I let out a little chuckle. "Really?!" And he promptly pointed at the scale showing the tip of my foot just over the 9.5 line. OK. But more significant was the "EE"... the designation for "Wide".

Yup, my wife always told me I had wide feet and there you go. My big and pinkey toes point inward suggesting years of incorrect, too tight-fitting shoes. Hmmm... I thought that was just support.

Anyway, I have been running in the new shoes for a couple of weeks. I can feel the difference as well as wiggle my toes when I run. Much better! Though I feel less stable when I go off road with the extra wiggliness... though that might just be in my head. I also picked up a pair of size 10 flip flops for bouncing around... very comfy.

Now the question comes in regards to cycling. Do I now need to pick up the wide versions of my cycling shoes? They really aren't that old and work like new. Plus I have a rare pair of Dominator SRS. At the time, the only other Sidi shoe with SRS were the Dragons. I did notice a few months back that some of the new Dominators (6, I think) sport the SRS system. Anyway, something for me to ponder... though $500 towards new shoes seems way out of the question at the moment....
