SS Progression...

I've acquired some of the parts for the SS wheelbuild! Take a peek!

I found a place on ebay that has a supply of Sid Blue Velocity Aeroheat AT rims. This is significant because I checked with Velocity and they do not offer the color any longer and the only other fun color would have been Lemon Yellow for which I was not a great fan. So... rims found! Another plus is they also had a supply of unused CODA front hubs with the same number of holes; 28. When I got the parts, I checked all of the dimensions and popped it into a handy-dandy spoke calculator and... voila! The front wheel will require 250mm spokes. A nice bonus is that I have a box of 250mm DT Swiss Revolution spokes in my pile of bike stuff... they're from a previous rebuild of another wheel last year which only used 14 spokes (I think it was a box of 100, maybe 72?). The rear looks to require 265mm spokes and unfortunately, I only have 267mm Revolutions in my pile (is there a "close enough" with the spokes?). So it looks like I'll need to get another box or settle for a lesser spoke (the Revolutions are a bit of overkill IMO) for the rear. The fronts are going to be radially laced with the rears planned to be 3-cross. I thought of having a 3-cross on the drive side with radial on the non... but the hub I plan to use has that flip-flop capability and as such both sides have the potential to be drive sides.

So the rest of the parts? I haven't found anyone stocking a 28 hole White Industries ENO Eccentric hub so that may be something I have to order. No luck on ebay either... I'd have to locate a 32H rim or change my rear dropout spacing. Um... not gonna happen. When I order the hub, I'll have them order the right size spokes (and double-check my math). That's when I have to determine if I am going to build the wheels or have the shop do it. I've built wheels (heck, I still have one of the pairs I build... still round, true and gorgeous - pat self on back here - ) but I did so while in a shop so I don't own every tool necessary to do it in my basement. Labor or tools... Labor or tools... It's the "give the man a fish" proverb all over again...

So the blue will match the other components on the bike! Pretty schwing to me... and probably only me (shrug). My wife did say she likes this bike better than what is suppose to be the Phat Master Daddy of my bikes. Ah well. Let's see... what else... oh, I am on a constant quest for yellow cantilever brake pads. Seems everyone stopped making colors except red, black and salmon... SALMON! I have a set on the front, but I have a set of red ones on the rear until I find the ones I want... even blue ones will work. Maybe silver... but I just don't want black. No fun!

I'm also working on some custom graphics but that is for a later entry... see you then!
