SS Building!

For those that wander on here and don't know, I really like to fiddle with my bikes as much... if not more than actually riding. So just to share, I wanted to show off where I am with my winter project build... I ripped apart my first singlespeed project (too much of a noodle on the trail) and began semi-fresh with a new frame acquisition. It came with a signiture SID fork in the glorious blue. Very identifiable to many in the know. Anyway... here's a shot:

I can ride it but it is still far from being what I want it to be... you see, I like my bikes to all have that special something that makes the bike mine and mine alone. Waiting in the wings for this bike are a host of blue and yellow tid-bits. First and foremost is the building of a fresh set of singlespeed specific wheels. I've identified the parts, now I have to obtain them and decide whether I have the time to build up the set myself or leave it for one of the local bike shops. The wheelset planned will utilize the White Industries Eno Eccentric hub which means I can ditch the tensioner currently installed. I already have a set of yellow sidewall tires for the new wheels when they're done (thanks to Phatmatt on the MMBA.org forums). Take a look at this:

I've rigged up cantilever brakes on a suspension fork! I don't think this is advisable but I do like to try oddball things... I suspect I am not the first to try this (I hope). Well... that's it for now on this bike... I can't wait to get it out on the trails for a whirl. Here's the cockpit:

More when I get a bit further with everything!

Roque,
Do the front brakes engage if you pull up on the handlebars? Do the brakes work if you lean into the handlebars?

Hey Harv... just saw your comment on the blog. Nope. It works perfectly. I hit that problem and figured out a little work-around. I added a cable stop to the arch that ties the two uprights so the brake rides on the lower portion of the fork. Actually works quite well. I'll know more when I get it onto a trail... much better than the crazy purple bike with drop bars last year...
