Cold Weather Layers

Well, its been a while since I put in an entry. But, I haven't really done too much riding in the past few weeks due to a lot of conflicts and other minutia getting in the way.

Since I need to leave a tip or technique or something, here goes. For the fall season... and into the winter as well, always dress in layers. A lot of times I have some kind of shirt of jersey that is perfect for the current conditions. But conditions change. When this happens, it is easier to strip off a layer and pack it away than it is to start to overheat. In really cold weather, it is really really bad to overheat. When you begin to slow due to the onset of fatigue, the excess perspiration will cool you down faster, or worse yet freeze you.

On a similar note, I like to use a lightweight base-layer in 2 conditions. When it is really hot and when it is really cold. Why in the heat? Because it pulls the moisture off my body to keep me cooler. In the cold? It serves as an extra dry layer keeping the moisture off and a warm air pocket/layer to boot.

Hope that suffices as a tip...
