More Thoughts on the 5/3

Well, although this was one of my more frustrating events and I seemed to vent a bit in my last entry... I was reminded that this kind of stuff happens and that the size of the events matter and exponentially grow. So I just keep moving forward. Right.

My wife was standing at the finishline watching for me. She never saw me until I found her about 10 minutes after I crossed. She did see one of my co-workers finish as he is pretty recognizible. He streaked through at around 22 minutes on the clock... wow. Just a few days before I was following him around the course to see if I could catch him. Nope, but I did keep up. But I've surmised that he runs much faster than he did that day. And that his gait is much more deceptive with his long legs and casual stride. Galump, galump.

I posted my results over in the right column; 26:10 with a 8:21 pace (official course length was 3.13 miles). Pretty decent at this point in time and since my earlier prediction was for me to only do only 8:45. Ahead of schedule... always a good thing. I mentioned the weather was awesome and complements to our team longsleeves. Just right at the start with a little unzip and sleeve pull on the final mile. However, my wife did point out that the shirts should be more visible than the black that they were. She mentioned red since she didn't see a lot of red out there. My thought was to get a stripe and even a bigger logo to be seen. The ones on the shirts were hardly readable from 10 feet away.

Let's see... the results were up in a jiffy. I jumped on the net and the results were uploading and searchable at 1pm that afternoon. Way before the 4pm stated up time. Excellent!

They had a new catagory... hand cycles! Fun to watch, but when are they going to include other cycling categories? Just kidding. There was a "Priority Health" official rider bouncing around downtown. He was also at the Priority Health tent at the running expo. They also had Priority Health cycling jerseys on sale there for $38 and change, but none in my size... and my insurance company is Blue Cross... Hehehe. I really didn't stick around the expo too long though I did whip through all the booths.

What else... I heard there were 500 or so people who were signed up for the 5K that got mixed up in the 25K start. Whoops! That would have made for a bummer of a day, huh?
