Tour de Cure, June 24, 2006

We are forming a team to participate in Tour de Cure, the annual cycling event of the American Diabetes Association, to raise funds for diabetes research and education.

Diabetes is the fifth deadliest disease in the United States and contributes to the deaths of more than 213,000 people each year - more than AIDS & breast cancer combined. Over 20 million men, women and children are estimated to have diabetes, but the real tragedy is that because it can be symptom less for years, more than five million of them don't even know that they have it. If improperly treated or left undiagnosed, diabetes can cause serious complications including blindness, kidney disease, heart disease, stroke or amputation. The American Diabetes Association is striving to both prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all those affected by it. They seek to accomplish this mission through valuable research, information and advocacy programs.

As participants in Tour de Cure, we have accepted two important challenges. The first is to get in shape and properly train to go the full distance. With this challenge, we have also made a commitment to support the fight against diabetes. Both of these goals are worthy of our best efforts and hope you will help by being one of our riders or sponsors for the event.

Please visit our team page to see the team list, how we are doing, and to join the team roster as a rider. You can also contribute to the team fund or on behalf of any of the riders listed towards personal goals (each person on the roster will be linked to their personal donations page). All donations are fully tax deductable. Interested volunteers and any further questions can send an e-mail to twirlyhead@yahoo.com, visiting the main Tour de Cure site, or calling 1-888-DIABETES.
